Shared note

Mrs. Taylor, a granddaughter, thinks William was buried at Fork Hill.

1900 census says b. Jan. 1851.

Virginia Gay was said to be the mother on Docia Wright's Death Certificate. Mrs. Taylor seemed to think she was Manley's mother as well. The census shows Eliza J. as the mother of house on the 1880 and 1900 censuses. In 1900 she and William are said to have been married for 32 year, putting the marriage about 1868. She is also said to have had eight children, with three living, apparently Docia, Manly and Maggie. Therefore it appears that Virginia and Eliza Jane were the same person. In the 1860, Nathaniel and Margaret Gay, the parents of Jennie Reeves, are shown to have a daughter named Jane, age 8. She is gone by 1870. William doesn't show as married in 1870, as he is listed in J. B. Reeves's household. However, there is a female, J. Reeves listed next door in the Caston household, age 18. So it may be that they had gotten married by then. I conclude that Virginia Gay and Eliza Jane were the same person. It also appears that there were a number of children who had died by 1900.
