This transcription was made using AI (Claude, by Anthropic) from photographs of the original court papers. It is an attempted transcription, not a certified copy. Faded ink, difficult handwriting, torn folds and damaged pages make some readings uncertain, and errors are possible. Check the original images before relying on any reading.

## Transcription conventions

- Original spelling, capitalization and abbreviations are kept as written.
- `[?]` = uncertain reading; `[illegible]` = could not be read; `[blank]` = a space left empty on the original.
- `[struck: ...]` = printed or written text that is lined through on the original.
- `[...]` and *[italic bracketed notes]* = editorial explanations added by the transcriber; `[letters]` inside a word = letters supplied to expand an abbreviation.
- On printed forms, handwritten fill-ins are shown in ***bold italics*** where it helps to tell them apart from the printed text.
- "PDF p." numbers refer to the page order of the source image file, which is not always the order the papers were written in.

*[A note on the amount: the handwritten word before "nine dollars" could be read as "Twenty" or "Seventy." The figures "$79.16" on the note and the clerk's assessment of "seventy nine dollars & 16 cents" make it Seventy. The total of $102.39 is $79.16 plus $23.23 in costs, which confirms it.]*

**PDF p. 8 - Judgment**

> And now at this day viz, on the first Monday after the fourth Monday in October in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred & twenty seven at the court of Com. pleas holden at Lancaster Court House in the State & district aforesaid comes the said [struck: Joseph] Reuben by his attorneys aforesaid & prays that the said James may answer his declaration aforesaid, & the said James, although solemnly called comes not, but makes default whereby the said [struck: Reuben] remains thereof against him undefended, wherefore the said Reuben ought to recover his damages aforesaid, but because it is unknown what those damages are, & because the demand of the said Reuben is a liquidated demand, according to the act of the Genl Assembly, the same is on motion only to the Court, referred to the clerk thereof to assess the interest & principal due thereon, & the clerk upon such reference finds the amount of [struck: interest] & principal to be [Seventy] nine dollars 16/100 with interest from the 2d July 1824.
> Therefore it is considered by the said Court that the said Reuben do recover against the said James the said sum with interest so assessed by the Clerk for his damages as aforesaid, as also the sum of twenty three dollars & twenty three cents for his costs & charges by him expended in & about the prosecution of his suit in this behalf & to him by the said Court with his assent adjudged amounting in the whole to One hundred & two dollars & thirty nine cents & be the said James in mercy &c.
